The National 7 summits Challenge involves climbing the seven biggest mountain ranges in Ireland, yes not seven peaks, even bigger the complete range and all within a single year.
The total walking distance averages 20km per range and each mountain range will have multiple summits to traverse.
How to take part in the National 7 Summits Challenge
You can take part in the Challenge in two ways — booking a single climb, or book the complete seven summitsand commit to climbing them all in a single year. This is the cheapest way to take part, and groups will benefit from the assistance provided by the professional Ireland 7 summits mountain guides.
Ireland 7 Summit Challenge takes place every year from March through to September. These hikes are designed for solo or hiking groups looking to meet new like minded friends or raise needed funds for a deserving charity. Become ahall of fame Ireland 7 summiteer.
From your registration fee, we will make a donation on your behalf to the Mountain Rescue Services in each province, to help them continue their great work in ensuring the safety of mountain users. You can also raise money for a charity of choice during your Ireland 7 Summit Challenge.

8th April Galty Mountain Range

Galty mountains, situated in the province of Munster is one of Ireland’s highest peaks and is classified as a “major mountain.” It is one of the 13 Irish Munros and is part of the Galtymore Mountain range made up of sandstone and shale, with 24 peaks above 100 meters.
13th May macgillycuddy's reeks

This mountain range, set on the Iveragh peninsula in County Kerry, is a long anticlerical range of glaciated Devonian sandstones, the reason for their many valleys, peaks, and ridges. This spectacular range of Irish mountains is also home to Carrantuohill, the highest mountain in Ireland standing at 3,414 feet.
10th June Mourne Mountains

The Mourne Mountains (Beanna Boirche), are situated in County Down in Northern Ireland. This compact range of granite peaks rises from the Irish Sea at Carlingford Lough. The historic town of Mourne separates the mountains, which date back to over 2.6 million years ago, from the sea.
8th July Mweelrea Mountains

Mweelrea or Cnoc Maol Réidh stands at 2,670 feet tall and is the 26th highest peak in Ireland. It is situated in County Mayo near the apex of a horseshoe-shaped massif that includes two other peaks. This massif is called the Mweelrea range and is noted for its breathtaking views.
12th August Blackstairs Mountains

The Blackstairs Mountains run roughly along the border of County Carlow and County Wexford. The highest peak within this range is Mount Leinster standing at 2,612 feet tall. Made up of a granite core, peat-covered uplands, and slate, these elements come together to produce a very unique landscape including a horn back ridge known as Cahir Rua’s Den.
9th September Derryveagh Mountains
21 Kilometer
Following the Glover route -The Derryveagh Mountains or Cnoic Dhoire Bheatha, are a major mountain range in County Donegal, taking up much of the landmass of the county. with seven mountains on the Glover route the highest peak at 2,457 feet is Errigal Mountain.

Jason Black– International Expedition Leader and leading Professional Mountain Guide. Very few have ever stood on the combined summits of Mt Everest and the savage mountain K2 arguably the hardest and most dangerous mountain in the world. Jason Black has joined that very small global club, placing him as one of the world’s leading high altitude mountaineers. His safety standard, mountain knowledge and adventure experience is exceptional.
Jason Blackslove for the great outdoors started as a young boy heavily influenced by cubs and scouts. The Irish mountains was to be his perfect preparation playground. Jason’s personality is light hearted and fun filled. His unfaltering determination hard work and commitment from a very early age to find purpose remove obstacles and find solutions has been his greatest success in life.
The Code of Practice sets out guidelines to ensure that the potential negative effects of the Ireland 7 summit Challenge are minimised.
Specific National 7 Summit Challenge Guidelines
Limited number of walkers – 200 per event.
We will Avoid the peak holiday times e.g. bank holidays, and summer solstice to minimise overcrowding on the mountains and the respective valleys’ infrastructure.
Be aware toilet provisions are very limited so plan accordingly.
Implement strictly are the 7 leave no trace principles. Information will be provided to participants on the environmental and land management sensitivities of the areas they will be visiting. We will give participants guidance on how to mitigate their impact as much as possible.
Individual mountain and site-specific codes of conduct should be followed.
We will always minimise disturbance and adverse impact on locals and seasonal farmers, giving consideration to the timing of the event for the least disturbance.
In camp settlement areas, arrival and departure will be agreed upon in advance.
Strict access and parking locations will be identified, avoiding congestion and the blocking of narrow roads.
In accordance with Irish Mountaineering guidelines, no dogs are allowed.
In order to make life easier for our travellers an organised leave no trace Basecamp is available for booking for €15 the evening before and after each climb, Friday and Saturday night. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet great people share new ideas and make great connections with like minded people. We will be providing the location and you must bring all your own camping equipment. This will be a leave no trace Basecamp, you won’t even know we were there. The €15 charge directly goes to hiring a local farmers field and portaloo toilet hire. You must reserve a space in time by email at jason@jasonblack.ie
